Urban Decay Heavy Metals Eyeshadow Palette (Holiday 2017) $55 LE

Review: I am a metallic/shimmer fan to the core. When I saw this palette come out last year, I knew that I had to get this, but also knew that it was a limited edition holiday item and that it would most likely end up on sale and that is when I snagged it. What I initially noticed about this palette was that the jewel toned side of the palette was extremely similar to the the Urban Decay After Dark palette, but the textures differed significantly.  While one side of the palette is jewel toned, the other side of the palette contains neutral/natural shades that are perfect lid shades for everyday wear. The one enormous drawback to this palette is the ridiculous packaging, both inner and outer! The outside packaging is a beautiful purple tint, which I am a sucker for, but it's obnoxiously clunky and obtrusive. It just takes up an obscene amount of storage space. The inner component, the actual palette has this huge disconnect in space with the mirror in the middle of the palette and the shadows to the left and right. What moron designed this hellacious packaging and called it useful for the average consumer. So much unnecessary wasted space and underutilized area for either additional shadows or more concise packaging.

Rate: 5.75/10 Huge point deductions for this stupidly crafted packaged products as well as point deductions for oddly repurposed shades from the Urban Decay After Dark Eyeshadow Palette. Other than that it's a great all metallic palette.

Rotate:  Keeping this one for now!

Too Faced Boss Lady Agenda Eyeshadow & Face Palette (Holiday 2017) $58 LE

Review:  Too Faced is not known for consistency, but since Holiday of 2017, with the exception of a couple of failed palettes (White Chocolate Bar & White Peach Palette), it has been showing vast improvement in its formula and attempting to roll with the big dogs, especially in terms of their newly formulated shimmer/metallic formula. I have owned several Too Faced Holiday Palettes and this is definitely my favorite. Great face products run along the bottom of the palette and a beautiful array of shades, with the exception of the notoriously useless matte with glitter shades, which Too Faced proudly claim to have initiated in the beauty community (Why would they would want to admit to that, I have not Earthly idea, but they claim that are the innovative force that brought that useless formulation to the eyeshadow palette genre of beauty products).

Rate: 8/10  Great quality shades. Several neutrals with "safe"& wearable pops of color appropriate for the workplace & a night out!

Flesh Starshine Eyeshadow Palette (New at Ulta) $38

Review:  This is a new brand at Ulta and I was hesitant to purchase it because the reviews were not necessarily very favorable. As a consumer, it's difficult to bust out $38 on a product that pops up out of nowhere, has no noticeable ties to the beauty community or industry, and additionally has an oddly inappropriate brand name. I actually was attracted to this palette because of it's unique color story, which is had a smokey silver tinge to it with a pop of cranberry pink! The packaging is a blackened glittered cover with appealing purple lettering.

Rate: 6.5/10  If you like dark grungy looks, with a small pop of color, then this might be the palette for you. This palette is NOT for your every day, average, neutral brown in the crease and taupe/gold on the lid type of makeup wearer. You have to have a little edge to go with this palette. I think for an intro palette from the brand, it's a decent first go, but it's not necessarily the easiest to blend and manipulate.

Rotate:  I'll keep this one for a little while.

Live Glam Eyeshadow Palette Marbled L.A. $26 LE

Review:  I signed up for Live Glam Eyeshadow Palette Subscription and this was my first palette. Perfect little neutral palette, with six shades and a great matte to shimmer/metallic ratio. I was quite impressed with this little guy. Even though it's basically a warm neutral palette, it performs quite well and you can get 3 - 4 good eye looks from this six pan combination. Very pleased with this palette in terms of wearability and easy to blend and apply. Very happy with this new subscription.

Rate: 9/10 Very happy with this palette and subscription. Well worth the price and perfect for a variety of skin tones and produces a fair amount of eye looks. Cozy, cute packaging with great shades!

Rotate:  Definitely keeping this little guy!

Buxom White Russian Eyeshadow Palette $40

Review:  I love, love, love Buxom eyeshadows. I have 10 Buxom eyeshadows, including this one, total, but I am sad to say that I really didn't fair well with this particular palette. First, the color variation is, well, nonexistent. You have 5 shades of pinkish color shadows and then a darker brown/burgundy type. This shadow combination is not for people with medium to tan to deep skin tones. It's just not a well thought out palette, and it doesn't represent the quality I know Buxom eyeshadows to have.

Rate: 4/10 Cute packaging and great price. Love the thematic element to the palette and I think this would work on my paler brothers and sisters, however, this is not for me and I am going to move it along.

Rotate:  I'll be selling this one on Poshmark & Mercari.

Bobbi Brown Ultra Violet Eyeshadow Palette $39 LE

Review:  I like Bobbi Brown the brand. I think for the most part the brand produces a lot of quality luxury products. Unfortunately, I have not had great luck with their eyeshadow palettes. I have sold two of them on either Poshmark or Mercari and I had a bit of trouble with this one. The mattes in the palette are quite smooth and easy to manipulate, apply and blend, but I had great difficulty with the shimmer/metallic/glittery shades. I had trouble getting those particular shadows to adhere to my brush and I am the type of makeup wearer that refuses to use my fingers, so this palette and I are at an impasse. I think that if I was willing to use my fingers to apply the shimmer/metallic/glittery shades, I might have been more impressed. I am thinking about changing my rule regarding the application process, but I really don't want to.

Rate: I really cannot rate this palette fairly because I didn't do everything within my own personal power to make it work so, look for a more thorough review in the future.

Rotate:  Keeping this one!

Huda Beauty Smokey Obsession Palette - black shadow broken :( $27

Review:  So, this is my THIRD Smokey Obsessions Palette because what you are witnessing in this picture keeps happening. 3 palettes in a row with a demolished black shade for no apparent reason. The first time I ordered it online and it arrived broken. They sent a replacement, which also arrived broken, so I went into the store I purchased this one which has been living in my drawer for several months and I opened it up and.....BROKEN BLACK SHADE.What the hell? Outside of this extremely inconvenient and unpleasant experience, the remaining shadows are phenomenal and I am very pleased with the performance of this palette. The metallic shades are so rich and thoroughly rich with color and the mattes are extremely creamy to the touch. All I am missing is a damn black shade!

Rate: 9/10 The only negative thing I have to say about this palette is that the black shade sucks because it keeps breaking. That's pretty much the only thing I have to say

J Cat Beauty Highlighter $8.99 & Sleek MakeUp Blush 5.99

Review:  (a) The J Cat highlighter is a decent highlighter. A tad glittery but very pretty against my skin tone. (b) This blush from SleekMakeup is a little light on the pigmentation side. It takes a lot to build up, but that's necessarily a bad thing.

Rate: 6/10 Both receive the same score and are average products.

Rotate:  For the moment, I will be keeping this one.
